Am I the only parent who has a problem with all of the movie watching that goes on in school...?

In second grade, my daughter came home to tell me she had seen the Sponge Bob Movie. I nearly flipped out of my chair. She was not allowed to watch Sponge Bob at that age! It never occurred to me she would see the movie at school. That got me paying attention. She was seeing a full length movie at least once a week. It was a reward for reading. I am trying to figure out on those days when does she learn? When you factor in recess, P.E., lunch, play centers, and a movie (usually 1 1/2 hours long), when is she learning? And Sponge Bob?! At least show a movie with some sort of life lesson or moral to be learned. The reason I ask the question is because I was the only parent who had a problem with Sponge Bob being shown to my second grader. And I have no problem with a movie reward every once in a while, but once a week? Am I sending her to school to watch movies? More importantly, am I the crazy one?? (please be kind with your answers! )
But that is a little much. You are right. It is taking a lot of time from academics. My students do not get to watch movies. I have too many things to cover that watching a movie would take away from that time. If they were to watch a movie, it would be one that had a moral, a follow up to a book the class had read together, or an educational video. You are not crazy for having a problem with so many movies nor for the types of movies being seen. If I were you, I would talk to the teacher. If that didn't work, I'd talk to the principal. If that didn't work, I'd go to the superintendent. Futhermore, if no results, I'd take it to the school board. At my district, we have to fill out a movie request to explain the educational benefits from the movie, the title, etc. You might want to let them know that you have no objections to a movie once a 9 weeks but once a week is a little much.
