Do you remember young men's 'deck pants' being popular early 60s?
Guys, did any of you wear them? Didn't they have a 'sailors' look to them, a rope tie for a belt? I may be mistaken, just wondered if anyone remembered them. My brothers had them, they were navy blue with a white rope for belt, flared somewhat, and I thought they were not full length pants, similar to length capri pants are today. My brothers, both 13 or 14 yrs old, and also wore white deck shoes, those Canvas Slip Ons that you can still find. These pants and shoes were all the rage back then, the days of the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. So anyone remember them?
I recall "beach bum" shorts that fit that description. They were popular during the " Beach Movie" era with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. Usually you saw the surfer guys earning them.
Sailors did wear that style during the 16th-17th century but the deck shoes were move of an invention since the vulcanization of rubber. They added canvas and you ended up with the father of the tennis shoe.
The early 60's were my favorite time since it was when I was going past "playing Army" and started getting very interested in girls. I remember very tight ankled Levis jeans with white socks and either brown penny-loafers or pointed toed snap on "cockroach killer" shoes. Also wore a skinny little belt that could double as a fan belt on your car if needed.
