Do you get BAH in boot camp?
I'm married with kids and heading to the Navy and my recruiter told me that I do NOT get BAH while in Bootcamp... It would only start once I'm in A school.
I was told by others that I would get BAH in boot camp aswell and asked him twice about this and he said ABSOLUTELY NO ONE... in the military no matter what service gets BAH while in boot camp.
Can anyone please clarify this for me as i'm finding conflicting information all over the place and I really need to get this cleared up. It's frustrating when I can't seem to understand my own recruiter.
Is there an order that states the BAH regulations somewhere?
I was told by military members that they recieved BAH for their family while they were in boot camp. I didn't say my recruiter was lying but it just seems like he doesn't always know what he's talking about.
Yes you do contrary to what the others have told you. Because you are MARRIED. If you are married while you are in Boot Camp/BCT you will get BAH and it will be based on the zip code of your spouse. Go here http://perdiem.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/bah.html to find out the rate for the area. If going to school it is unaccompanied orders (for the Navy it must be longer than 26 weeks in one place to even be considered accompanied) then the BAH will also be paid for the spouse's zip code. Only if it is accompanied orders will you be eligible for housing or getting BAH based on the zip code of teh base you are stationed at.
If you are single then you will not qualify for BAH at all.
With the military it can take up to 8 weeks before the first pay will be deposited into your account. But it will be backdated to the date you started. So make sure you have savings to cover it and have called the creditors about this. Including the landlord if you rent.
EDITED - BAS you will NOT see during Boot Camp. As the only place you can eat is the Galley. During schooling BAS will be in the pay but it will be taken out for everytime you eat in the Galley. In the end it is better not to count it because it is to feed YOU not your family. With the Navy if you are stationed on a ship, 90% of your BAS will be taken out leaving you only around $40 each month to cover meals outside of the Galley, including during deployment. Only if you are on a Shore command will you get BAS and no deductions.
