Who can we compare Blake Griffin to?
Someone with similar height, weight, strength, agility, and vert. is what I'm looking for.
Griffin's 6'10" with shoes on, a little under 250, has a comparably smaller wingspan/reach, 35-36" vert, and gets a 10.9 rating for agility (lower numbers are better). A lot of his numbers (height, vert, agility) are extremely similar to Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudamire, but Griffin sets himself apart with his strength- he got 22 reps on the bench to Howard's 7 and Amare's 12.
Are there any other 4's and 5's- especially if they aren't active and we can look at their whole career- that have similar numbers along with that kind of strength? I'd like to look at that and see what kinds of things might be in store for Griffin.
People compare Blake Griffin a lot to Carlos Boozer, a young Karl Malone, and Charles Barkley, those are all great players, but the player I think he's more likely to be like is Shawn Kemp. He is a very gifted athlete, can absolutely throw down dunks, he positions himself well on the floor to receive the open pass, has good court vision, and seems like the type of player that is willing to learn and get so much better. I think his ceiling is very high and if the Clippers hires a big man to work with him on his post moves and defensive positioning, he will be dominant.
